Quite literally stealing the show in the women’s basketball victory against Bryant on Dec. 3 has earned junior Felicia Barron (Springfield, Mass.) the honor of the QBSN Athlete of the Week.

In the 67-56 win against the Bulldogs, the Bobcats recorded 20 steals, 12 of which were courtesy of Barron.  Her double-digit number of steals has set a new record for Quinnipiac Division I single-game steals.  Just in case there is any doubt about Barron’s stealing capabilities, she is currently the nation’s leader in the category, averaging 6.1 per game.

“I have good court-vision, so whenever I see the ball I just try to go get it and get two points for my team,” said Barron after her record-breaking game.

Steals aside, Barron’s larger-than-life successes have been a huge contributing factor to a team with much promise.  From the 64-55 win over Fairfield on Nov. 20 until the 74-65 loss against Sacred Heart on Dec. 5, the Bobcats were riding a five game win-streak.  In those five games alone, Barron totaled 69 points and 30 steals in 143 minutes played.

Within the win-streak, the Bobcats won the Concord Hilton Classic playing host team St. Mary’s in the championship game.  For her performance in the tournament, Barron was named the Most Valuable Player award.

Hailing from the home of basketball, Springfield, Mass., it does not come as a surprise that Barron’s presence on the team is a rather large part of the reason that the team has had such great success this year with an overall record of 5-3 and breaking even in NEC play at 1-1.

Even though the Bobcats’ season is still its beginning stages, Barron has already proved herself as a keynote player and definitely someone to watch as the season progresses and competition heats up.  The Bobcats next travel to Rhode Island for a non-conference matchup on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 2 p.m.
