The lone Quinnipiac win came in the No. 2 doubles slot as the freshmen pair of Jacqueline Raynor (Garden City, N.Y.) and Michelle Dassa (Marlboro, N.J.) narrowly defeated Sarah Ali and Bella Genkina, 9-8 (5).
Fordham’s pair of Amy Simidian and Angelika Dabu took the No. 1 doubles match over Rachel Cantor (Short Hills, N.J.) and Sarah Viebrok (Carmel, N.Y.) by a score of 8-4, while Hannah Fritzinger and Julie Leong defeated Ariana Launie (Milton, Mass.) and Morgan Crystal (Ridgefield, Conn.) in the No. 3 match 8-1.
Raynor faced off against Ali again as the No. 2 singles match, but the freshman Ram came out victorious, taking the match in two sets (6-4, 6-2).
While all of the singles matches were completed in two sets, one Bobcat came close to extending her match further than an uncontested sweep. Dassa battled for a comeback in the No. 3 singles match, but Genkina was able to put a stop to her momentum. After dropping the first set 6-2, Dassa started the second set with explosive energy. As the set wore on, Genkina matched Dassa’s power and forced a tie-breaker to decide the set. The two rallied, exchanging leads until Genkina eventually won the tie-breaker 12-10 and in turn, the set 7-5.
In spite of having lost its last three matches without earning a point, the women’s tennis team looks to turn things around as it heads to Providence Wednesday afternoon for a non-conference matchup. The first serve is set for 4 p.m.
