Wheeler, a junior forward, was voted MVP of the Nutmeg Classic Tournament this past weekend after her big two games against Sacred Heart University and Yale University. In a 9-1 rout of the SHU Pioneers, Wheeler netted one goal to go along with three assists.
With that win, the Bobcats advanced to the Tournament Championship against Yale. With just five seconds left in the first period against Yale, Wheeler got her second goal of the weekend to help the Bobcats get the win. Quinnipiac’s victory over Yale earned the Bobcats their second-ever Nutmeg Classic Tournament Championship. The two weekend wins improved the Bobcats record on the season to 11-6-1 overall.

In addition to QBSN’s Athlete of the Week honors, Wheeler was also awarded the ECAC Hockey/MLX Skates Player of the week. This is the third time this year that Wheeler has won this award.
On the season, Wheeler is second on the team in goals (8), points (18), and tied with Erica Uden Johansson for second on the team in assists (10). This comes a year after Wheeler finished fifth on the team in points (14).
The Bobcats are home this weekend at the TD Bank Sports Center, hosting ECAC rivals Brown University and Yale University. Both games are set to drop puck at 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, respectively. Both games will be broadcasted live here on the Quinnipiac Bobcats Sports Network.
